Expert Strategies For The Paintball Sniper
A good sniper doesn't mind playing alone, however he will want to somehow keep in contact with at least one other team member. The use of silent throat coms are great for this to keep from blowing your cover when hidden. Staying out of sight is often a key element in being a successful sniper; camouflage fatigues or a ghillie suit can be used to allow a Sniper to blend into his surroundings. A Sniper has to think on his feet, develop good strategies and be able to plan.
The Sniper's gear, particularly his paintball gun, distinguishes him from other players. Certain features are required in a Sniper paintball gun. Some kind of scope and a long sniper barrel are a must for long range, accurate shooting. The barrel should be at least 18 inches in length and even longer if you want; in general, the longer the better. Other beneficial equipment is a bipod for more stability and/or a laser sight for pin-point accuracy.
As a sniper, consider different strategies of movement and attack to surprise your opponents with. In general, there are three types of strategies commonly used by the paintball sniper that are quite effective: the ambush, flanking maneuvers and higher ground vantage point shooting. The ambush sniper hides and patiently lies in wait for his victim. When the enemy reaches a certain point or goes past, the hidden sniper picks them off from close range one at a time, quickly and severely diminishing the opposing team's capacity.
A sniper who wants to be more active can play a more forward position; this is effective in using a flanking strategy to stamp out the opposing team. The flanking Sniper crawls or creeps into place to get behind or towards the back of the enemy and into the best shooting position. Camouflage clothing that will allow invisibility is an absolute must for this type of maneuvering. Once the enemy passes, the sniper can provide accurate fire power from behind, sandwiching his opponents between his team's front player's shooting. An electronic trigger with fully automatic firing would give the flanking sniper's paintball marker a great advantage.
The third strategy, higher ground, came about simply because although one paintball gun doesn't shoot much farther than another, you can shoot farther by shooting from a higher vantage point. Therefore, a Sniper that uses the higher ground strategy simply climbs to a higher vantage point and can get more range out of his marker. Higher ground can give a bird's eye overlooking view of a larger portion of the field. This may provide the advantage knowing the opposing team's positions and enemy strategies; here the sniper can also play a lookout role as well by communicating important information to his teammates.

what would be considered a paintball sniper marker?
i see people talking about snipers being those with pump guns but what does that mean? what kind of guns exactly and where could i check them out? also for anyone who knows..ive just got a pro-vantage thermal mask and was wondering if its good. i recieved it as a gift from a friend. just wanted to know if its a good mask. thanks.
Mask wise i'd move up to a jt flex period. As for the sniper gig any paintball gun barrel over 14 inches becomes a friction problem and reduces accuracy and distance. Sure it looks neat and "sniper" like it doesn't do anything but hinder you. Depending on the gun a good 12/14" barrel would do just fine. Smart parts,dye,j&j,evil,ect. are just to name a few. Paintball revolves around the 3 "b's", bolt,ball and barrel. An aftermarket bolt will increase effecientcy and accuracy. The type of paintballs you use also determines its accuracy, cheap/old paintball have irregular shells,ect and will not fly straight. Paint does have a shelf life and the barrel is responsible for how it leaves the marker and also its efficiency. Any paintball marker can be a sniper gun, its the player behind it that makes it that way. As for the looks side of it i'd look more toward tippmann and opsgear. Take care.
