Airsoft barrel length?
I want to know if a longer airsoft gun barrel makes much different with accuracy/range. I know with paintball markers if you use a 12" barrel, then a 20" barrel, there is a big difference in accuracy.
The reason I'm asking this is because I want a G36c, but I don't want to have a less accurate gun than other people, so I might end up getting an M16, which isn't a bad thing as it is my second priority gun, but I'd rather have a G36c.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks.
A longer barrel will be inherently more accurate than a shorter one.
The inner diameter of a barrel is just as important as the length (if not moreso). Stock guns can come with barrels with an inner diameter of up to 6.1mm. It may not sound like much but that 0.05mm each side of the BB makes a hell of a difference. It allows the round to bounce along the inside of the barrel giving it a wilder trajectory after leaving the barrel.
The tighter the barrel you use, the more stable your round will be. 6.01mm is a common barrel size for single shot snipers, and 6.03 and 6.04 are regularly used in AEG's (most people prefer not to risk using too tight a barrel in a full auto gun. Even slightly irregular ammo could lead to a barrel blockage and potentially a ruined gearbox).
If you install a tightbore barrel on a G36c along with an upgraded hopup, you'll find it's extremely accurate.
