POSSIBLY putting a trail of gasoline on the road so in case of a drive by someone in the bush can light it and scare the crap out of driver and prevent them from leaving

Oh, this sounds WONDERFUL! Maybe to expand on the idea of water, make up some water balloons, but before adding the water, add a bunch of food coloring drops (like 15 for a baseball-sized balloon), and let them have it! If you can get anyone's clothing, they'll possibly be cold from the chilly air, and when they see the food coloring on their shirt later, they'll really regret it.
Or, y'know... fill them with oil or something.
Fire back rotting eggs at them? Be careful and don't drop.
